We arrived back in Calhoun County at 1:30. I have mentioned this before, but when I have to come home from vacation, I head straight there. No stops along the way, except for a quick bite and restroom breaks. We left our Airbnb at 6:00 CST and the only thing I regret about leaving that early is that we barely had time to enjoy our stay at what has to be one of the top Airbnb’s in the country. It is located in Roanoke, VA and I recommend it over any hotel room in the area. The hosts live right next door and they rent out the house and the basement apartment. There were two ladies renting out the house and I looked it up on the website, and it is every bit as stylish as the basement. The house is called Ms Helen’s, and the basement is Ms Helen’s Down Under. One of the hosts is also a beekeeper and they have a koi pond and some raised garden beds that they give tours of if you have time. We did not have the time, but would love to go back again some day soon.




It is just the best place and I highly recommend staying there.

Arriving home is good, especially when you have been driving, but realizing that you have two whole months before you can see your kid again is tough.

I am already planning our next trip.

P.S. I want to take a moment to wish my hubby a very Happy 26 Year Anniversary!!! He is my best friend, and did a lot of the leg work for our trip. He rented our car, and made the hotel reservations. He was also kind enough to Face Time with me Sunday when we didn’t know where to find what we were looking for at the 9/11 Memorial. I would hate to do life without him, and while he is on board with a return trip to NYC, he has said that he will be flying and will just have to meet me there. Even photos of the perfect Airbnb can’t entice him to drive.

I Love This City!!

Day 3 started like every day should, with wonderful fresh Italian food!!  Kira met us before 11 (the much needed sleep and late start to the morning was just what we needed), and we headed down to the Flat Iron District and a restaurant/grocery/fine foods place where I wish I could have ordered up a nice permanent corner and called it home.  It is called Eately Caffe, and it is Italian food heaven.  We entered through the grocery side and I fell in love immediately.  Kira just looked back at me and smiled, because she knew there would be an instant adoration.  Just look at all of this beauty!! Apartment Photos Finally and Saying Goodbye

Anthony flies home today, and I can only imagine the sadness he felt at having to say goodbye to Kira this morning. Lucky for us, she has a classmate from Auburn who is there from her internship in D.C. and they will be spending the weekend together exploring and attending church.  One of our biggest desires for Kira while she lives in NYC is to get involved in a local church, and thankfully for us and for her, there are several she is interested in visiting.  Her friend will leave late tomorrow afternoon, and work begins on August 5th. Yesterday was the last day of sightseeing for Anthony and he finally got to do his cruise to Liberty Island.  Until they went, I assumed that the Statue of Liberty was on Ellis Island.  It is not.  So much for assumptions.  They did photograph Ellis as they passed by, but it was too hot and they were too tired to stop and visit.  Plus, there were tons of people, and they were a bit weary of that aspect of sightseeing....

Sunday Funday

I was going to begin this post with a beautiful sunrise photo, and I had my phone set to wake me up and everything. I was going to get up, take a stroll on the beach and wait for the sun to join me. Here’s what happened. I heard the alarm go off, I hit the stop button, and the next time I opened my eyes, the sun had clearly jumped the gun. Maybe tomorrow. We did get up in time to head downstairs for the breakfast buffet, and as we rounded the corner in the lobby, there was an encounter that did not escape either Anthony or me. I was a couple of steps in front of him, but when the female concierge passed by, she was laser focused on Anthony only, and promptly said “good morning sir.” Not “good morning ma’am,” or even “good morning” as a general greeting that would include us both.
